Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre is hosting the biggest movie marathon in the South West – the Summer Film Festival.

The festival started on Friday night with many patrons enjoying Capel Vale wines, canapés and the screening of Tim Winton’s The Turning.

The festival runs until January 19 and 10 films will be shown with three screenings a day.

Included in the line-up are classics such as the 1952 Grace Kelly movie Singin’ in the Rain and the Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins.

In addition to the normal screenings, this Sunday BREC will host the Family Dress-Up Day where families are encouraged to come to a screening of The Wizard of Oz in fancy dress.

The event starts at 9am, with prizes for best dressed and free popcorn and face painting.

Marketing manager Lucy Craig said this year’s festival would be something different.

“It has been running for some time, but this year we decided to shake some things up a little bit, ” she said.

“We have included some classics which is something we haven’t done for a very long time, they are just $10 and in addition to that we have international films, ” she said.

“I think the classics will do quite well, The Turning is going to do amazingly well as Tim Winton is an award-winning author and Black Fish, which is a documentary, has had some controversy around it so should be popular.”
