Mum raised $5600 for research
Bunbury mother Jackie Ross battled harsh conditions to raise $5600 for diabetes research on a 160km cycle through the Barossa Valley at the weekend.
Ms Ross, whose 12-year-old son Baden Ross-Willmore has type 1 diabetes, embarked on the mammoth Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ride to Cure Diabetes on Saturday.
It is the second time she has tackled the gruelling event.
“Riding in very windy and really hot conditions was difficult but it was awesome, it was a great experience, ” Ms Ross said.
“Everyone was so positive – it was amazing.”
The passionate cyclist aimed to raise $3500, but eclipsed the total and raised $5600.
Ms Ross completed the ride in 7½ hours and said she was already looking forward to next year’s ev- ent.
“It was slow going but it was faster than last time. Now I’ll have to try and beat that time next year, ” she said.
