Mural inspires students

A wall at Bunbury Primary School has been transformed into a work of art.

Artist Jahne Rees guided 12 classes of students through the creation which will be completed next year when students have their engraved drawings hung on aluminium plates.

School principal Shane Doherty said the ‘‘Ocean to Forrest’’ themed artwork had transformed the canteen and student toilet block wall.

‘‘It just lifted this whole area,’’ Mr Doherty said.

‘‘Because this is the lunch area, we chose this wall to brighten up.’’

Students learnt painting techniques and how to work on a large artwork and despite sore wrists and dirty clothing from participating, the artisans had nothing but praise for the experience.

Student Kirsten Duane said she had been inspired to do art in her spare time after participating in the project.

‘‘It was very, very fun because it was different to all the other artwork we’ve been doing,’’ she said.

‘‘The painter was very nice and funny.’’

Student Mac Coulson said he enjoyed working on a largescale artwork.

‘‘It was an interesting experience because we got to paint a big area,’’ he said.

Student Brianna Fleay liked the longevity of the mural.

‘‘It’s good because it will stay at the school a long time,’’ she said.

And the resident artist may have inspired future artists.

‘‘I think it’s inspired some kids to take their talent a bit further,’’ Mr Doherty said.
