A cat may have had a 170km joyride of a lifetime after being discovered stowed underneath a car in an Australind mechanic shop.

Workers at Colin King’s Australind Automotive Centre got a shock today when they found the feline underneath a GT Mustang.

Owner of the vehicle and Australind resident, Colin Robinson, said he believed the cat lodged itself underneath the car when he was in Perth and stayed there during his drive to Australind.“I suspect it happened while we were staying at a motel in North Beach on Sunday night or Monday morning because we put the car straight into the garage on Monday night and there is no way a cat could have gotten in that night,” he said.

“The only other explanation is that it jumped up during our drive to the mechanic shop.”

Mechanic shop owner Colin King said when workers lifted the car on a hoist, they the tail of the cat, and thought it was a possum.Australind Veterinary Clinic nurses Amanda Vanstone and Narelle Pollard were called to the mechanic’s to remove the cat.

“The cat seemed very calm when it was pulled out but it seemed very dehydrated, I don’t think it had drunk water for a while,” Ms Pollard said.

“It is a bit burnt on one of its back paws but apart from that it seems fine.“I’m not sure who the cat belongs to because it does not have a microchip but it would be great if it was reunited with its owner.”
