National climate change rallies attract 60,000

Bunbury Herald

The National Day of Climate Action prompted a group of South West people to gather in Anzac Park on Sunday to urge stronger government action to combat global warming.

The newly-formed Bunbury Climate Action Group wants to share ideas, inform, advocate and act to make a difference in the South West.

Group convener Joan Jenkins will this week be part of a phone hook up to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change in Warsaw.

“The South West is recognised as being one of the world’s most vulnerable places being affected by climate change,” she said.

The biggest concerns were with rising sea levels and altered biodiversity, she said.

About 100 people gathered at Bunbury’s Anzac Park on Sunday protesting what they see as the Federal Government’s inaction on global warming.

A total of 60,000 people took part in 130 rallies across the country.
