Navy move to second

MICHAEL GLIDDONBunbury Herald

Aces Navy moved to outright second on the Dale Alcock Homes Bunbury Basketball Association A-Grade ladder, with a 71-57 win over Bulls Maroon on Friday night.

The teams started the game trading baskets, but Navy pulled away to a 35-18 half-time lead thanks to some deep three pointers by Wade Hitchcock and Maroon never recovered.

Jeremy Paull scored a game high 26 points for Navy, with Hitchcock adding 25 of his own, while Trent Worthington (25 points) and Paddy Phillips (12 points) were the best for the Bulls.

Bulls Gold defeated Tornadoes Red 86-63 and in doing so moved two wins ahead of the fifth placed teams, Aces White and Busselton, as they look to lock in a finals berth. South West Slammers star import Tre Nichols scored 27 points for Gold, with Cohen Thompson chipping in 15 points.

The Red’s best was Thomas Warrigal (22 points) with Bree Dudek and Damian Chalk adding 16 points each.

Busselton came away with a 69-63 win over Tornadoes Grey, which puts them at a 7-7 win-loss record as they desperately try to get back into the top four.

Matt Mansfield (25 points), Todd Earle and Dylan Ness (15 points each) led Busselton while Darius Smith (19 points) and Brandon Bennell (18 points) worked well around the ring to top score for Grey.

Top of the table Tornadoes Black survived a second half comeback attempt by Aces White to record a 65-55 win, their eleventh win from 14 games.

Jason Smith was solid as usual for Black with 24 points while Josh England scored 15 points for White. In the Women’s matches, Aces Blue defeated Busselton 41-32 with Raya Thompson scoring 21 points for the winners.

Bulls had a 52-36 win over Tornadoes.
