Netball: Jets crash land to Flames

NICK LONGBunbury Herald

It wasn’t meant to end this way. The Griffin Souwest Jets went into their final home games favourites against Wheatbelt Flames.

With big enough wins they could even have made the finals, but instead it was the Flames who ended the weekend with two wins while the Jets only have next year to think about.

Jets coach Michelle Willsher said Saturday’s 58-40 result was ‘‘extremely disappointing’’.

‘‘We were just never in the game at all,’’ she said.

‘‘But at least they redeemed themselves with an improved attitude and focus on Sunday.

‘‘There was a lot more focus and a lot more fight.’’

The Flames had their nose in front all day with the final result 43-39 despite the Jets puttingup12 more shots at goal.

The difference in the end was shooting efficiency with the Flames hitting 74 per cent while the Jets plummeted to a season low 56 per cent.

The Jets reserves and under 18 teams both won twice at the weekend and will have their final games in Perth on July 6.
