New school for Treendale
Treendale will get a $15.5 million primary school by 2014 as part of the State Government’s $70 million investment in four new primary schools.
The school will be located on the corner of Azurite and Opal drives and will feature state-of-the-art technology.
Kingston Primary School principal Alan Kidd said the opening of a new school in Treendale was inevitable with the ever-increasing number of students at nearby Kingston and Parkfield primary schools.
‘‘Currently our school has 765 children and our projection is that we’re growing by 100 children per year,’’ Mr Kidd said.
‘‘Treendale and Kingston are both growth areas so we’re certainly going to continue growing over the next few years.
‘‘I welcome the news and I think it’s a positive move so that our schools don’t become schools with 1000 plus children.’’
Department of Education executive director of infrastructure John Fischer said a new school in Treendale was required to deal with increased enrolments in the area.
‘‘Treendale Primary School is required because existing schools in the area do not have room for more transportable classrooms to accommodate the growth in student numbers expected by 2014,’’Mr Fischer said.
Mr Fischer said despite the rapid growth in the area, there were no plans for another high school in the near future.
‘‘Based on enrolment projections Australind Senior High School is expected to be able to cater for the demand for secondary schooling in the Australind area for the foreseeable future,’’ he said.
Other primary schools in the State set to open by 2014 include North Yanchep, Hammond Park and North Butler.
