No tolerance for violence

Bunbury Herald

Bunbury police have warned that people will find themselves in jail if they assault a police officer following the second attack on an officer in two weeks.

‘‘My officers are not punching bags,’’ Sgt Brett Cassidy said.

‘‘I’m hoping this violent behaviour is not turning into a trend.’’

A 23-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly struck a police officer in the head at the weekend.

The officer was brought to his knees in the altercation, but did not sustain serious injuries.

Under WA’s mandatory sentencing legislation, people who assault police will spend a minimum of six months in jail.
