Octoberthon a winner for Telethon
A manic month of outside broadcasts at businesses around the South West to raise funds for the sick kids of WA has come to an end.
Spirit Radio presenter Ashley Dillon said the response to Octoberthon — which had raised almost $7000 for Telethon — had been huge.
‘‘It has been really positive — people have been very generous wherever we have been broadcasting from,’’ Mr Dillon said.
‘‘Telethon is such an institution so people don’t shy away from donating and a lot of people have been donating more than the suggested $2 amount and aren’t worrying about receipts.’’
Throughout October, Spirit Radio Southwest broadcasted from sites including Eaton Fair Florist, Anytime Fitness, Donnybrook Butchers and finally at theHarvey Norman Superstore on Thursday.
The combined total from the Spirit Radio Network’s Telethon fundraisers — which includes Octoberthon, Radiothon and events at Geraldton, Karratha and Broome — was more than $57,000.
Radiothon, a 24-hour live radio show, contributed more than $50,000 to the total.
The event, in mid-October, featured some of the nation’s biggest stars, including Andrew O’Keefe and Delta Goodrem.
Mr Dillon said he appreciated everyone who had made a donation during Octoberthon.
