One-of-a-kind tile steals the show

Bunbury Herald

A unique headpiece crafted from placemats helped Capel resident Helen Price claim the overall prize at the Bunbury Stakes Day Fashions on the Field competition on Sunday.

Mrs Price impressed judges with an elegant black and cream outfit accentuated by matching striped heels and handbag, but it was her handmade hat that stole the show.

“Millinery is a hobby of mine as my husband is a horse trainer and I spend a lot of time at the races,” she said.

“I took it up because I was spending so much money on hats and headpieces that I would only get to wear once.

“The hat I wore on Sunday is actually made from placemats that I got from Acquire, although I didn’t tell the judges that until after I had won.”

Fashions on the Field coordinator Jo Clark said elegance was the main criteria the judges used to decide on a winner, but an interesting hat or headpiece helped entrants stand out from the crowd.

“The judges are looking for a lady who is well presented and jumps out at them and a fantastic hat always goes a long way towards achieving that,” she said.
