Parker bags 10 for rampant Dogs

MARK RAVIBunbury Herald

The Bulldogs bounced back from their first loss of the season at the hands of Carey Park last week to post a 103-point victory over the Bulls at Payne Park on Sunday.

Bunbury captain Jesse Gribble celebrated his 150th game with a best-on-ground performance in the 25.17 (167) to 10.4 (64) triumph, which made him the target for two of the three plays resulting in yellow cards late in the game.

The yellow cards — given to Robert Saylor, Anton Saylor and Luke Jones — marred an otherwise admirable performance from an outmatched Harvey squad that kept playing hard despite the game being out of reach after the first term.

The Bulldogs came out of the gate on fire with an eight-goal first term led by Aidan Parker, who scored five of his 10 goals for the game in the period.

Bulls forward Toby McNamara managed three goals in the quarter, but his efforts went unnoticed as his side fell behind 8.4 (52) to 3.0 (18).

The home side’s attack continued, with Jordan Adamson-Holmes, who scored two of his five goals in the second, proving too much for Harvey defenders focused on containing Parker.

Harvey put together a more determined effort in the midfield which resulted in the first of hard-running forward Glen Wallam‘s two goals for the game, but trailed 13.9 (87) to 5.3 (33) at the half.

After going scoreless in the second quarter, Parker kicked his sixth goal less than a minute into the second half and would add another two in the period.

Gribble continued to showcase his efficiency and endless stamina as his side ended the quarter with a 69-point buffer.

After keeping their composure for most of the game, the visitors’discipline collapsed in the final quarter with three players receiving yellow cards and two being sent off the field.
