Parole release granted for manslaughter mum

Bunbury Herald

A Bunbury mother convicted of manslaughter has been released on parole.

Tanya Louise Smith was sentenced to four years jail in May last year for the manslaughter of 23-yearold Jarrad Fitzpatrick, who died after being stabbed outside a Glen Iris home in November 2009.

Mr Fitzpatrick was killed at the home of Renee Kipling, who the Smith family had planned to attack after an exchange of threatening phone calls and text messages.

Earlier this month the Prisoners Review Board decided Smith’s release would ‘‘not present an unacceptable risk to the safety of the community after her participation in the choice, change and consequences program. Smith’s sentence was backdated to August 2010, meaning she was granted parole at the earliest opportunity.

During parole Smith is not allowed to contact the Fitzpatrick family.
