Photo competition catches kids reading

Bunbury Herald

Children in Harvey with a keen eye for reading have taken their enthusiasm to new and innovative heights after entering the Harvey Shire Libraries ``Get Caught reading'' competition.

Picture: Avid reader Corrinne Brislin, aged 13, submitted this photo for the Harvey Shire Libraries ``Get Caught reading'' competition.

Principal librarian Ruth Campbell-Hicks said a range of ``highly creative'' photographs had been entered into the competition, with junior photographers having very original viewpoints.

Reading in the shower, reading up a tree, reading four books at a time, and reading hanging upside down were just some of the unique themes portrayed in the competition.

Winners will be announced and receive their book voucher prizes this week, and photographs will be on display at Harvey Library.

The competition was designed to attract more children to the library to read.

Meanwhile, today Harvey Libraries will be launching the 2012 National Year of Reading with special gifts for members who visit the library.

The aim is to highlight the importance of reading as a life skill and as a source of enjoyment for all ages.
