Photographers launch new studio

Bunbury Herald

Photographers and artists are set to benefit from the opening of a versatile and much-needed creative space in Bunbury.

Inspired by similar spaces in Perth, photographers Paul Verhagen and Bianca Turri have joined together to offer a blank canvas for artists to adapt to their needs.

With a big empty space next to his business, Mr Verhagen saw an opportunity to use it to benefit the artistic community by opening The Empty Box Studio.

“We decided to rent it out as a space for anyone who needs a space in which to photograph — (there is) nothing like it I’m aware of in the South West,” Mr Verhagen said.

“It would be good to see work being generated that would otherwise go to Perth.”

Mrs Turri said the space would be available for many different uses, such as exhibitions or photography shoots.

“The space is big enough to shoot cars, for example, whereas before there was not really anywhere to do that,’’ she said.

Mrs Turri and Mr Verhagen said they had been motivated by their own experiences as photographers, often struggling to find suitable places to do their work.

The studio will have all the usual features of a photographic studio, including a hair and make up table and neutral grey walls.

Mr Verhagen said the success of the studio would determine whether it would be expanded to include further facilities.

The space had an opening celebration last week.

Anyone interested in using The Empty Box Studio can contact Mrs Turri on 0409 818 847.
