Teenagers wreaked havoc on the streets of Australind at the weekend when a group leaving a party turned wild.

Two boys were charged after an attack on a police dog and an officer was spat at.

Police were called to Kingston early on Saturday morning after reports of about 60 teenagers roaming the streets, fighting and kicking over rubbish bins.

Sgt Chris Clelland said officers were called to deal with the teenagers who had been at a party. The trouble began as a group of 40 took to the streets.

“The kids are responsible for their own actions, but if parents collected their children, this wouldn’t happen, ” he said.

Police attempted to arrest a 16-year-old boy for his alleged involvement in fight when a 15-year-old boy tried to intervene allegedly spitting on an officer while trying to pull his friend from the police car.

He then allegedly attempted to punch an officer before repeatedly punching police dog Geoffrey who had bitten his leg.

Two other teenagers threatened to harm the dog, resulting in juvenile cautions.

The 15 and 16-year-old boys will face Bunbury Children’s Court.

The trouble came on the same day Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan called for parents to take more responsibility for their children.

On Friday children were taken from a South West home after police allegedly found drugs and pornographic material within reach. Officers were so concerned for the children they removed them before Department of Child Protection officers inspected the home.
