Popular author meets her readers

Bunbury Herald

The Bunbury Regional Library was packed with bookworms eager to hear from award-winning author Kate Grenville last week.

The Sydney-based and sometimes controversial writer has been chosen as one of 50 authors in this year’s Get Reading! campaign after her new book Sarah Thornhill was picked as one of the ‘‘50 Books You Can’tPut Down’’.

Ms Grenville, who became well-known for her novel The Secret River which addressed Australia’s convict history, has been travelling around the country sharing her new novel and answering questions.

Acting regional librarian at the Bunbury Regional Library Kim Fee said the event had a wonderful turnout.

‘‘The people attending were excited that their new library attracted such an acclaimed author as Kate Grenville and are looking forward to more author events in the future,’’ she said.

‘‘In the past authors have only wanted to visit libraries in the metropolitan area and it is great that we now have a facility that can accommodate such an event in our regional centre.’’
