Quilt the perfect 10

Bunbury Herald

Quilters across Australia will be able to admire Yvonne Chapman’s vibrant piece ‘Hang Ten – the Perfect Wave’ that has been announced one of 30 finalists in the Australasian Quilt Convention.

It is the first time the talented Harvey artist entered the challenge that will display the works of the finalists in every State as a travelling exhibition throughout the year.

The annual challenge is a themed competition with this year’s theme being ‘Ten’, leaving the interpretation wide open to entrants.

“I have admired the finalist’s exhibits in Perth before and wanted to give it a go, ” Mrs Chapman said.

“Hang ten is a surfing term, and it allowed me to include the big wave.

"I am very pleased with the finished quilt and being a finalist in such a big field of competitors is as good as winning for me.”

Mrs Chapman worked seven days a week throughout January to complete her entry, using free motion machine sewing and beading to give it a three-dimensional, realistic appearance.

This year’s challenge includes entries from every State in Australia as well as Canada and New Zealand.
