Racing: Mills scores classy double
Capel trainer Raquel Mills scored her first-ever double on Sunday when she successfully prepared two stylish winners at the Bunbury Turf Club.
Mills won the Channel Seven Handicap (1200m) with six-year-old gelding Unforgiving Minute before also taking out the GWN7 Handicap (1400m) with hot four-year- old Miss Tahitian.
Boom apprentice Kyra Yuill was on board both gallopers.
Returning for just his third start after a near two-year racing hiatus Unforgiving Minute snatched a gutsy victory from $13 chance Le Sacre by a short half head on the line.
Hot favourite Hey Blondie was third by a long neck.
Since resuming in Pinjarra last month Unforgiving Minute has a fifth, second and now a win. While her stablemate sat among the head of the field, improving mare Miss Tahitian rewarded her backers with a mesmerising run to claim her first win this time out.
Jumping from gate 10, Miss Tahitian turned 12th but eclipsed the field with a blistering outside run to finish first by four lengths.
In the Bunbury Retravision Maiden (1400m), punters missed a juicy payday when Jeffery Berry guided the Neville Smith-trained Sea God to a win at the generous odds of $17.
In his first-ever start, the four-year-old stallion held off highly fancied rival Sad Eyes, trained by Mark Bairstow.
Berry later helped himself to another win when on board Malcom Byas-trained mare Sky Balloon in the Bunbury Herald Handicap (1000m).
In the Redwave Media Maiden (1400m), Transit Reef claimed a narrow victory.
With Alan Kennedy in the saddle, the Sharon Miller-trained four-year-old held off Red Cheeks by a half head to win.
Despite turning eighth in the South Western Times Maiden (1200m), Carniolan, a $5 chance, stormed home to defeat Temples by half a length.
Other winners were Starting Over, Flirty Beau and Lovre.
