Rescue group open day puts marine safety in the spotlight

Busselton Volunteer Marine Rescue Group will promote safety at sea at a boating community information day on Sunday.

Held at the Port Geographe Marina boat launching ramps, the day will include up-to-date information on revised Department of Transport rules for recreational boating.

There will also be flare demonstrations at 10am and 1pm; correct radio protocol demonstrations; ropes, knot tying and splicing demonstrations; and information on the various life jackets available.

October is traditionally the start of the recreational boating season, and Commander Peter Taylor said it was important boaties had the correct safety information.

The public can also look over the group’s two rescue vessels.

The day runs from about 8am to 4pm.
