Residents say 'no' to office blocks

CLARE NEGUSBunbury Herald

The Stirling Street community last night told the Bunbury City Council they did not want offices built in their neighbourhood as part of the proposed expansion of the Stirling Street Arts Centre.

More than 150 people attended a community forum where the majority of residents spoke adamantly against the proposal.

Key community concerns are the loss of recreational space and the area’s heritage value, increased traffic, pressure on parking and the size of the proposed building.

The council is looking to relocate the not-for-profit organisations housed at Lotteries House in the CBD to a site at the Stirling Street Arts Centre and Jaycee Park.

City of Bunbury CEO Andrew Brien said the council was looking for ways progress the project in consultation with the community.

Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said city staff would prepare a report on the issue which included the community’s concerns.

He said the report would be presented to the council.
