Robertson stars in Colts' win

Bunbury Herald

Colts recruit Tyler Robertson made a superb start at his new club when he led the premiers to a fourwicket win over Leschenault at the Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday.

The lanky teenager, who crossed from Capel in the off-season, opened the batting and carried his bat for an undefeated 61 as his team overhauled the Green Cap’s modest 9/137 for the loss of six wickets.

In other games, Dalyellup Beach skittled Collie for 69 before going on to claim an eight-wicket triumph at Dalyellup College, while Marist defeated Hay Park by six wickets at Forrest Park East.

Eaton beat Harvey-Benger by four wickets at Forrest Park North. Veterans Mike Parker and Rob Marshall played their part for Leschenault, with Parker putting together a watchful 93-ball 55 as the only meaningful contribution to the batting cause, while Marshall produced the best bowling figures of 2/15, which included the prized scalp of former Zimbabwe Test batsman Murray Goodwin.

While it was a great start for Robertson, it was also a happy day for new captain Clayton Caltsounis, who led his team to a bonus-point win with a neat 2/17 off eight overs.

Caltsounis won the toss and asked Leschenault to bat, and after a solid start of 25 between Mike Parker and Kurt D’Agostino the Green Caps lost Ben Parker and Tom Buchanan to Luke Morien.

Wickets fell at regular intervals with Morien (3/19), Caltsounis and Michael Norris (2/10) snaring multiple scalps.

Colts’ innings followed a similar path, with Jaysen Miguel and Robertson sharing a 41-run stand.

Dion Attard (23) helped swell the score to 73 before Michael Newman, skipper Brody D’Agostino and Marshall led a mini fightback.

But Leschenault’s score wasn’t enough and Colts overhauled the total in the 23rd over.
