Rob's stunning drive Farr too good
Robbie Farr claimed his first Australian 360 Sprintcar National Championship crown after a stunning performance at Quit Bunbury Speedway at the weekend.
After a strong showing in the heats, Farr started from the second row behind West Australian drivers Jason Kendrick and Brad Maiolo, who filled the pole positions on the grid.
A tangle on the first lap allowed reserve drivers Daniel Keen and Chris Ackland to get a start in the prized event.
But Farr, in the #17 Monte Motorsport machine, blasted to the front on the re-start and was almost unstoppable.
Luke Dillon’s car was tipped onto its side after a heavy crash, but an open red allowed a quick wing replacement and he resumed his place in the race.
Kendrick and Maiolo, after changing tyres, were sent to the rear of the field on the re-start.
Several more laps were completed before another re-start took place.
Dillon and Kendrick had been reinstated to their positions of fifth and sixth and the chase for the checkered flag was on.
Steve Lines was locked in a battle for a place on the podium with David Priolo while Dillon showed his class to move into third and then second with an exciting pass.
Victorian 360 champion Matthew Reed then scooted past Lines to move into third and complete the podium.
The 46-car field was the biggest ever assembled for the National 360 sprintcar championships.
The two-night show wrapped up a bumper 2012-13 speedway season in Bunbury, which has hosted two State and two national titles.
