Rugby: Warriors triumph

RILEY STUARTBunbury Herald

The McDonalds South West Warriors survived a see-sawing second half, holding on to claim a six-point WA Rugby League premier grade grand final victory over Rockingham at the weekend.

Ahead 12-6 at the long break on Saturday, South West were pushed all the way in a nail-biting second stanza en route to the 22-16 victory in front of almost 2500 fans at Perth’s nib Stadium.

Controversy marred the final minutes – Rockingham's Jared Crowe appeared to knock the ball on in the dying stages after his side received a penalty inside the 20m line.

With the Sharks trailing by a converted try, the decision to allow play to continue left South West scrambling on their in-goal area in a bid to avoid the match being sent into overtime.

Under immense pressure however, the Warriors did enough to win possession and clear the ball in a relieving passage that delivered the club a title in just its second season.
