Three hours of study each weekday and weekends spent at her desk have paid off for Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School high achiever, Brianna Dixon.

Miss Dixon, of Collie, has been awarded a prestigious Fogarty Foundation Regional Scholarship from The University of Western Australia.

The scholarship will cover her accommodation and education expenses during her university career.

The diligent student was named dux of BCGS for 2013 and received a near-perfect ATAR of 99.35.

She was also named the State’s top student in human biology.

Miss Dixon, who plans to do a bachelor of philosophy majoring in biochemistry and neuroscience, said she was delighted her efforts had been rewarded.

“I did a lot of study – three hours each weekday and weekends I was at my desk and didn’t go out, ” she said.

“It is a relief now as I can do things now and everything paid off, so it’s great.

Miss Dixon said she didn’t expect to be announced as the best student in the State for human biology.

“I was a bit surprised when they called to tell me, I had hoped I had done well but not that well, ” she said.

“The following day I received the Fogarty Scholarship, it was a good week.”

Athletics is another of Miss Dixon’s passions and she has represented WA several times in the sport.

She will move to St George’s College at UWA next month.
