School wins through hard work
Something must be in the water at Bunbury Senior High School this year with students taking home a swag of victories and trophies from the region’s inter-school sporting competitions.
Bunbury Senior High School students recently swept the pool in a number of sporting events including this year’s Champion’s at the Winter Carnival and Runner up Champion School for Country Week.
A lot of the success has been attributed to the school’s specialist Bunbury Elite Sport Training program which is aimed at teaching students skills in sports science and body conditioning.
Acting head of physical education Toni Jones said the program had been running for the past two years and the students in the program had seen results.
‘‘The BEST program is aimed at teaching and conditioning students in sports science and to get the most out of being an athlete,’’ she said.
‘‘Success doesn’t just happen, students have to work hard and we as a school are aiming at challenging students in the area of sport.’’
Ms Jones said the program has helped the students create goals and stay focused.
‘‘It is a great way to see the children motivated and interested in sport,’’ she said.
BEST student 13-year-old Tenille Barbetti said she had learnt a variety of training techniques.
‘‘The program is great as I have learnt theory as practical,’’ Ms Barbetti said.
‘‘I wouldn’t mind working as a sport physiotherapist when I am older.’’
