School's call for help answered

Variety WA and the Rotary Club of South Bunbury have combined to provide College Row School with a brand new permanent shade structure and specially modified SMART board.

The Variety Creative Car Cruise, which began in Armadale on Friday, finished its trip through the State’s South West on Monday morning when it pulled into Bunbury to present a cheque for just under $50,000 to College Row School principal Sue Barrett.

“The money will be used to replace a shade cover that blew off in last year’s June storms,” Ms Barrett said.

“We applied for grants through a number of different organisations but nothing was forthcoming until we got in touch with Variety who jumped on board straight away.

“The new shade structure will be even better than the old one in that it will have a hard top and will enable our students to use the playground ll year round.”

The annual March Variety Creative Car Cruise raised just over $110,000, with the bulk of the money going towards a new Sunshine Coach for Gwynne Park Primary School in Armadale.

The Rotary Club of South Bunbury followed Variety WA with a presentation of their own – $5000 to be spent on an educational SMART board.

“The SMART board is a learning tool and has been specially modified so that even the students in wheelchairs can use it,” Ms Barrett said.
