Students from five courses at the South West Institute of Technology will collaborate on Thursday to host a fashion and art show, Creative Connections.

More than 60 students, studying fashion design, hospitality and cookery, interior and furniture design as well as digital media and technology will host the event, staged in SWIT’s Automotive Centre.

Models will strut their stuff on the catwalk wearing garments made by the fashion students, and art students’ artwork will be on display and on sale.

SWIT fashion department coordinator Sarah Ashburner said it was the culmination of the year’s work for the students.

“It’s an industry event which is really worthwhile for the students, ” she said.

SWIT visual arts coordinator Jane Hardy said it was an excellence opportunity because it exposed them to industry.

“For some of them this is the first time they have showcased their artwork outside of the classroom, ” she said.

The event will be held on Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.

Pre-sale tickets cost $20, or are $25 at the door.
