Silence is broken, noise is powerful
Bunbury metal core musos Broken Silence are getting warming up their neck muscles in preparation for Saturday night’s big show at the Eliot Street Bar.
It’s set to be their last show for 2013, so you can bet it’s going to be a big one.
“We’ve been pretty quiet on the gig front this year,” said bassist Sam Bosley.
“That’s because we’ve been busy writing songs and recording demos for our EP release.
“We’re heading into the studio early next year, and we’ve been working pretty hard on getting ready for it.”
The five-piece metal core band has been playing since 2011 and have just recentlyadded a new, sixth member in the form of keyboardist Mat Grant.
Saturday night’s show will also be Grant’s first live gig with the band.
For the uninitiated, a keyboard player in a metal core band may sound a little odd, but Bosley insists Grant’s addition has been a huge boost for the band’s sound.
“Well, we’re pretty glad to have him around,” said Bosley.
“He’s brought a great element to our sound.”
Bosley says Broken Silence fans can expect a new direction in sound on the five-track EP when it’s released early next year.
“We’ve been working really hard, recording demo tracks in Mat’s home studio,” he said.
And the point of that is?
“Well, that’s so we can listen back to what we’ve done and see what we need to change — the things we need to work on before we hit the studio.
“It’s all about saving time and knowing what we want — that way we can direct the producer.”
But before they do that, catch them on Saturday with mates Acrimony, Sail On! Sail On! and Corpus, from Sydney, in what promises to be a big night for metal in Bunbury.
“Corpus and Sail On! Sail On! are releasing a split together,” said Bosley.
“We were pretty excited when we got the call to support.”
You heard him. Get down there.
