Singing sisters hope to be Unearthed

The musical talent of Bunbury siblings Jess and Kira Depiazzi has been recognised with a nomination in Triple J’s Unearthed High competition.

The folk-acoustic duo, who both attend Bunbury Catholic College, said they were over the moon to be named and hoped their unique style of music would take them around the worldin the years to come.

‘‘We would love to become travelling musicians,’’ Jess said.

‘‘Next year I’m going to take a gap year just to work and play gigs on weekends.

‘‘I have to wait for Kira to graduate and then maybe we can travel around Europe and play ou r mu sic a t some random places.’’

Kira, who plays a number of instruments, including the bongo drum and violin, as well as backup vocals, said she enjoyed being in a band with her older sister, a guitarist and vocalist.

‘‘I like playing with Jess, she is an awesome sister most of the time,’’ Kira said.

Bo th sis ters agreed their parents had been massive influences on their love for music.

‘‘They are both very musical,’’ Jess said.

‘‘Everytime we go on car trips, dad always plays music.’’

As for the name, Kiress, it was a simple decision to make a word that included both of their names.

The winners of Unearthed High will get flown to the Triple Jheadquarters in Sydney to record their track.

Well known acts that got their lucky break through Triple J Unearthed include Missy Higgins, Killing Heidi, Grinspoon, Little Red,Washington and Boy & Bear.
