Slammers hold on to douse Flames

Bunbury Herald

An undermanned Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers maintained their impressive home record on Saturday night, holding on to defeat Rockingham 106-102 at the Eaton Recreation Centre.

Missing American signing Clive Weeden and veteran Lee Smith, the Slammers led the Flames by 12 points at half-time but got into foul trouble and were forced to hold on grimly for the points.

Former captain Trent Worthington, point guard Cory Richardson and fiery shooting guard Wade Hitchcock were all fouled off leaving the Slammers with only two on the bench.

The four-point triumph was the Slammers fifth in as many games at home this season.

Ty Harrelson was a standout for the home side with 25 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

Jay Warren scored 33 points for the Slammers.

Both he and Richardson stepped up on the glass in Weeden’s absence and finished the night with 10 rebounds each.

Meanwhile, the South West Slammers women’s side were thumped 112-63 in their WSBL grand final rematch against Rockingham. Kim Sitzmann scored 21 points.
