Slammers score over Lakeside
It was a perfect weekend for the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers, with both sides taking convincing wins against the Lakeside Lightning on Sunday.
Patricia Bright led the women’s side to a 77-55 win, as the tall centre scored 25 points and 12 rebounds in a best on court performance.
Bright was well supported by fellow import Deonica McCormick (15 points, six rebounds and six assists) while Bianca Donovan came off the bench to score a handy 14 points.
The win was set up in the first period, when the Slammers got on a roll to score 28 points to Lakeside’s 13.
Lakeside captain Courtney Byrnes was her side’s best, scoring 17 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
But she had little support, with only one of her teammates able to hit double figures.
Meanwhile in the men’s game, the Slammers played three good periods of basketball before falling away in the final term to win 120-92.
Playing-coach Ty Harrelson had arguably his best game for the season, as he scored a quality triple-double (32 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists).
He was well supported by the inform Tre Nichols (28 points) and Brian Voelkel (12 rebounds and 11 points).
The Slammers convincingly outscored the Lightning in the first three terms, before the home side hit back in the last to equal the South West side’s 29 points.
Luke Thomas came off the bench for Lakeside to dominate, scoring 26 points, while Jordan Swing was also handy with 13 points and eight rebounds.
