Slammers slip against Lakeside

The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers women’s side’s grip on top spot slipped a little at the weekend, after a shock 74-67 loss to Lakeside in Perth.

The Slammers are still one win and percentage clear in first place on the WSBL table, but must negotiate a tough double-header clash this weekend with fixtures against reigning champions Willetton and second-placed Rockingham.

Forwards Valerie Ogoke (18 points, 16 rebounds) and Zoe Harper (17 points, 12 rebounds) fought hard for the Slammers in the absence of star import Kim Sitzman whois recovering from an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, the Slammers men’s side endured a 141-97 defeat at the hands of Lakeside on Friday night and a narrow 106-99loss to Goldfields on Saturday.

The SouthWest side unveiled their latest men’s recruit, Buster Perkins, at the Eaton Recreation Centre on Saturday night.

The 196cm guard notched a double-double of 11 rebounds and 22 points on debut.

Trent Worthington brought down 17 boards while Senario Hillman scored 25 points.
