South West football round up

Bunbury Herald

A four-goal second quarter from South Bunbury’s Leigh Kohlmann lead his side to a 17-point win against fellow premiership contenders the Eaton Boomers.

After having to settle for a draw in their previous quarter, neither side was willing to walk away with two points as the Tigers won 12.11 (83) to 10.6. (66).

It was a gutsy win for a resilient Busselton Magpies outfit that fought doggedly for four quarters to defeat Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault 16.15 (111) to 14.2 (88) at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Saturday night.

Busselton almost came undone in the first term due to mystifying match-ups that saw defender Lance Lucas stationed in the forward line, ruckman Adam Dehring down back and youngster Noah Moore opposing the Lions’ ace full forward Ashley Thornton.

A desperate snap from a goal square scramble by Hayden King saved Donnybrook from being held goalless at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday when they went down to the Bunbury Bulldogs by 83 points, 12.10 (94) to 1.5 (11).

Despite the lopsided scoreline the Dons had a fair amount of the ball especially in the second quarter when they had at least eighty percent of the play in their half, but could manage just four points to the Bulldogs two.

Harvey Bulls gave their supporters reason to cheer with a hard-fought 19 point win over fellow strugglers Augusta-Margaret River.

The Bulls led throughout, but withstood a final quarter charge to beat the Hawks 12.8 (80) to 8.13 (61).

Carey Park have continued their push for a top three position and double chance in this year’s finals, while ending Collie’s finals chances with a 31 point win on Sunday.

The Panthers midfield put extreme pressure across the ground on the Eagles who were unable to find space, with the hosts winning 12.16 (88) to 8.9 (57).
