Bunbury Herald

Bunbury residents will next month be spoilt for choice, with the city set to be inundated with major sporting events and community attractions.

An AFL pre-season fixture, Bunbury Cup and inaugural South West Autumn Racing carnival, Krikke Boys Shootout and the re-emergence of the Aqua Spectacular festival will headline an action packed month of March in the city where people will certainly be rushing from event to event.

Set to be climax over the Labour Day long weekend, the reinvigorated Aqua Spectacular festival will include a number of hands-on sporting demonstrations that are sure to get many members of the Bunbury community involved.

An ultimate frisbee workshop, Koombana Bay Sailing Club regatta, Forza Dragon Boat regatta and the 29th Barrett Bunbury Swim Thru are just some of the opportunities on offer.

‘‘One of the things that we’re looking to start this year but also to build on in future years will be the encouragement of participation,’’ festival coordinator David Kerr said.

‘‘You could, for example, go down and participate in the ultimate frisbee.

‘‘You could get involved in doing sandcastle building with your kids or get involved in the swim events.

‘‘That’s what we want to build into this aswe go forward; more and more opportunities for participation.’’

Kerr said that the action packed month would serve as a powerful draw card for the city.

‘‘There’s certainly going to be heaps of things happening that weekend but March generally us a very powerful attraction for the city of Bunbury,’’ he said.

‘‘There are a heap of activities happening in March and there will be no better place to be than down in Bunbury.’’
