The success and popularity of street art project Re.Discover has sparked conversations about out-of-the-box ideas to draw more people into the Bunbury CBD.

Artists and the public celebrated the wrap-up of Re.Discover on Saturday with a walking tour of the six murals and a party at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries.

The art has been a hot topic since painting began on Wednesday and Re.Discover organiser Andrew Frazer said the community’s response had exceeded his expectations.

“We’ve had so much excitement, from the commercial sector to the kids.

“People are excited to have something like this happen in Bunbury, ” he said.

Mr Frazer said the art had been designed to be a walking exhibition with the six murals dispersed throughout the CBD.

“I hope it has been the spark for conversation and inspiration, ” he said. It’s really great to see people grab a map, walk around and interact with the murals.”

“It doesn’t cost people anything to view and it’s been brilliant to have more foot traffic in the CBD.”

The murals can be found on the external walls of The Darkroom Concept, Good Earth Surf Shop, Wombat Lodge, South’s Furniture, ShoeBeDo and the Arrio Building.

Artwork from the six participating artists — Stormie Mills, Kyle Hughes-Odgers, Anya Brock, Jodee Knowles, Tim Howe and Andrew Frazer — is on show at the galleries until Sunday.

Mr Frazer said he hoped people could also visit the artists’ show at the gallery.

Plans are already in the pipeline to build on the successes of this year’s Re.Discover in 2015 and make it an annual event.

Mr Frazer said as Bunbury’s streets filled with art it would develop a national and international reputation as a must-see hub for street art.
