Students at Newton Moore Senior High School showed their support for the exhausted fire, rescue and emergency workers on Friday by baking hundreds of muffins to send south to Margaret River.

Teacher Jenny Dunlop said fighting the fires wasa huge task for those who were risking their safety to protect others.

‘‘We can’t do much from up here in Bunbury but we can give them something to eat,’’ she said.

Jordan Mathews said his father Aaron Mathews, who is a police officer, had travelled south to set up road blocks in the devastated region.

‘‘They’ve done an amazing job,’’ Jordan said.

‘‘We hope the muffins will bring them a bit of joy and bring a smile to their faces.’’

The class cooked 360 chocolate chip and peach muffins and Ms Dunlop said it was great for the students to do something for others.

On Friday, Year 11 student Shannon Edwards said she hoped no one would be injured in the fires and it was brought under control as soon as possible.
