Students get insights into career options

Bunbury Herald

Students at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar received a glimpse inside the lives of a range of local professionals at the school’s annual Careers Breakfast on Thursday.

Now in its seventh year, the optional breakfast provides students with an opportunity to pick the brains of people working in a variety of popular career paths.

More than 100 Year 11 and 12 students attended the event, where they were able to speak with professionals working in fields ranging from medicine and emergency services to media.

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar principal Michael Giles said students enjoyed coming face to face with people working in careers they might be interested in pursuing themselves.

“The Careers Breakfast lets the students talk informally with local professionals in a relaxed and open setting,” he said.

“We often get former studentswho now work in the community coming back for the morning and it is always very popular with our Year 11 and 12s.”

Bunbury Career Fire and Rescue senior firefighter David Mildon said he appreciated the opportunity to speak about his work at the breakfast.

“It’s great to see the amount of interest there is in the work firefighters do and to be able to explain to the students the exact requirements and processes involved in becoming a firey,” he said.
