Students reveal their 'people of influence'

Bunbury Herald

There were surreal goings on at Adam Road Primary School on Thursday with a gathering of eminent characters from past and present including Princess Diana and Sacagawea.

After studying people of influence over the term, Year 5 students from the school’s academic class of excellence held an Evening of Eminence to showcase what they had learnt.

Dressing up as their research subjects, the enthusiastic participants demonstrated their new-found expertise in front of 150 people as they answered questions about their eminent individuals.

Principal Larry Gleeson said the event was a fun way for talented students to celebrate their learning experience and share it with the community.

‘‘These kids know all the basics — that we’re trying to do is to develop their learning latitudinally and longitudinally so they get a well-rounded education,’’ Mr Gleeson said.

A keen tennis player, Jakub Vychytil researched his hero, Lleyton Hewitt.

‘‘Lleyton’s good because he’s sporty and I like sport and he’s Australian,’’ the Year 5 student said.

‘‘It has been fun even though it was work.’’

Choosing Sacagawea, Ashleigh Archer said she felt like she had come to know the famous native American over the course of the project.

‘‘I didn’t know anything about native Americans and I thought it would be good to learn about them,’’ the budding historian said.

‘‘I like that she was adventurous and she was willing to help people.’’
