Suitcase rummage all part of the Show

The Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault is asking people to pack their suitcases and head to the Bunbury Show for the club’s inaugural suitcase rummage sale on Saturday.

Bunbury Leschenault Rotarian and organiser Anna Oades said she identified a new fundraising opportunity when she heard about the tradition of suitcase rummage sales in the eastern States.

“Mandurah has one so we thought we would try a suitcase rummage sale in Bunbury, ” she said.

Mrs Oades said the Bunbury Show was a perfect choice to launch the initiative.

“The Show is trying a new initiative focussing on recycling and sustainability so this type of sale fits well, ” she said.

“It is also a good chance for the Rotary Club to get out there and show people what we’re all about.

“These type of sales generally attracted younger people, so it’s a great opportunity for Rotary to get the younger generation involved in fundraising.”

Melissa Hinds, who participated in the club’s South West Young Achievers Program, said the suitcase rummage sale was a good opportunity for others to find out what Rotary was all about.

“You don’t know until you are a part of something like Young Achievers what actually goes on in the community, ” she said.

In line with the tradition and ideals of suitcase rummage sales, the club has restricted sale items to recycled goods, new products by local designers, artists and not-for-profit organisations.
