Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School principal Tegan Davis has been left "pretty overwhelmed" by the response to a fire that significantly damaged the school's library on Wednesday night.

Ms Davis said the school had received offers of books from other primary schools, South West authors, and public libraries in Bunbury, Capel and Eaton.

"It definitely shows community spirit is alive in Bunbury," she said.

Emergency services were called to the school at about 8.30pm after the blaze began in the library.

Arson Squad police officers visited the Glen Iris school but the cause of the fire remains unknown. The blaze caused an estimated $700,000 worth of damage but was contained to the library.

Ms Davis said the majority of the damage bill was for the school's mains power, computer servers, and fibre optic cables, which were all stored in the library.

She said replacing the library could take a year but it would temporarily be housed in a classroom.

She was also hopeful the school's technology and communications would be restored in time for the start of term four next Tuesday.

"It won't affect our core business of teaching and learning, though," she said.

Ms Davis said she "had to look for a silver lining" in a "great opportunity" to build a 21st century library for the school.
