Records were broken at William Barrett and Sons' annual Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday.

About 2000 guests visited the Spencer Street funeral directors for the event's 22nd year, which is believed to be the most attendees ever.

It was also a success financially, with more than $27,000 raised for the Cancer Council.

Only the 2013 morning tea - which was the milestone 20th anniversary - raised more money than this year.

William Barrett and Sons funeral director Adrian Barrett said he was amazed by the support shown.

"Once again there was an overwhelming level of support from our community," he said.

"It's our 22nd year but the momentum continues to build thanks to the volunteers, performing schools and generous local businesses.

"Cancer has devastated many families yet our community turns out in droves to turn a huge negative into something positive.

"As funeral directors it's a nice change to invite people into our premises for a fun, colourful, community-driven celebration."

Guests enjoyed morning tea in the sunshine and were entertained by performers including students from Dalyellup, South Bunbury and Picton primary schools plus Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School and Newton Moore Senior High School.

South Bunbury Primary School has been involved since the event's inception and principal Ian Harvey said he was proud the school could contribute every year.

"It's something we really treasure and one of those big-ticket items our choir and Ripper Skippers really look forward to," he said.

"It's an event with a good moral feel which is part of our culture as a school and our community service orientation."
