SW star tallies third cup win
Mixed in with Hawthorn's third-straight AFL premiership is a success story from the South West.
Former Augusta-Margaret River defender Ben Stratton became a three-time premiership player on Saturday when his Hawks defeated the West Coast Eagles by 46 points.
Stratton came up through the ranks in the South West Football League, representing the colts in the Landmark Carnival before being picked up by East Perth and then eventually being drafted to Hawthorn in the 2009 draft.
Stratton became one of 17 Hawthorn footballers to have played in the three consecutive premiership victories as part of the Hawks' elite defence, which kept the Eagles to just eight goals.
The 26-year-old had 14 possessions coming out of the backline in the commanding win and held powerful Eagles' forward Jack Darling to just one goal.
Stratton told the crowd at the supporters day on Sunday that he had pulled up well from the game.
Saturday's grand final was Stratton's fourth, after being involved from 2012-2015.
He signed a three-year extension at the club earlier this year, tying him to the Hawks until 2019.
