Eaton Boomers strengthened its premiership claims with a 48-point victory over Carey Park at Glen Huon Reserve on Sunday.

The Boomers were dominant in the second and third quarters to set up the 13.21 (99) to 7.9 (51) victory.

With both teams coming into the game near the top of the ladder, it seemed destined to be a tight match and the first quarter lived up to the billing.

Carey Park forwards Arron Hill and Matt Martin were prominent in the first term and the latter showed his aerial prowess to set up Trent Murdoch for the first goal of the game.

Quick ball movement proved to be a key factor for Eaton and the Boomers players raced the ball up the field for Tyler Patterson to kick a goal.

Boomer Herman Humphries landed a goal before Martin showed good strength to mark and convert his first goal of the day.

Jarrod Humphries flew high for a superb mark and kicked an easy set shot before Carey Park had a number of missed opportunities to finish off the first term.

The visitors started the second term well with Martin kicking a goal after marking from Hill's snap.

However, it was at this point that the match was turned on its head as Jace Cormack responded with a snap that bounced through and followed it up moments later with a wonderful running goal as it shrugged off multiple defenders.

Carey Park struggled to get the ball into its attacking half but Matt Martin looked dangerous when given opportunities to lead and mark.

It seemed all too easy for the Boomers when Chris Atthowe converted from long range and Robert Loo ran into an open goal.

The last quarter was a scrappy affair as the hosts dominated but went goalless as it conspired to kick nine points.
