SWNFL 2022: Intense battle between Bunbury Bulldogs and Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault Lions ends in 42-all draw

An intense battle between the Bunbury Bulldogs and the Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault Lions has resulted in the first draw of the 2022 South West Netball Football League season. Round six of the 2022 SWNFL season on Sunday featured a league double-header at the South West Sports Centre with Bunbury and HBL going head-to-head, while Eaton took on South Bunbury. Bunbury were quick to build an early lead during the opening quarter with quick driving from the mid-courters and accurate shots on goal by Haylee Abbs. Although HBL put the pressure on in defence, including an impressive intercept by Amber Byrne, the Lions struggled converting early until they found their groove late to trail by six at quarter-time. Bunbury continued to extend their lead early in the second quarter while HBL suffered from a few missed opportunities in the goal circle. However, the Lions managed to fight back with solid driving from Jasmine Barrett and shooting by McKenzie Walker. Despite the Lions bringing the intensity, Bunbury held on to lead 26-23 at half-time. The third quarter saw a fast start for HBL as they began making an attempt to take the lead for the first time, eventually succeeding with Katie Martin dominating in goals. As Bunbury tried to respond, the Lions held strong to lead 35-32 at the final change. The final quarter was an intense affair as both teams put the pressure on each other. Bunbury managed to bring the scores level thanks to feeds from Courtney Babich and shooting by Abbs and Chloe Rogers. However, the Lions began matching Bunbury’s goals as both teams fought hard to seal the win. The feverish battle ultimately ended in a draw with both teams finishing on 42 apiece. Meanwhile, it was another intense battle between Eaton and South Bunbury, although the Boomers pulled away during the second half to take the win 63-49.
