Tenderfeet's cup of tea benefits grassroots charity

A South West-based charity is holding a fundraiser in Bunbury to raise money for children in Kenya later this month.

Tenderfeet Australia is holding a morning tea at 6 Teeluk Road, Carey Park, on November 14 to fundraise for children who live in Kibera, which is a slum in Nairobi.

Fundraising director Jess Cartwright said there would be a $10 entry fee and the money raised from the morning tea would support two Tenderfeet projects.

"The money will support the Tenderfeet Kipepeo program which aims to create a safe environment for teenage girls by helping them undertake further education at a boarding school or vocational school outside of the slum," she said.

"The other project that the morning tea will support is the Tenderfeet Education Centre, which is a school where children can learn, play and get two meals per day."

Ms Cartwright said the morning tea would include coffee, tea and cakes, which included gluten-free varieties, and a book sale.

"We've held a few fundraisers in the past few years but we haven't held a morning tea like this before," she said.

"We are lucky because Phena Logvryn, who is one of our volunteers, is opening up her beautiful garden for the event."

Ms Logvryn said she had been interested in Africa for a long time and saw the charity as a way of helping raise money for people who needed it.

"It's a grassroots charity that isn't as big as some others but that's what I like about it so I'm happy to open my garden up for the event," she said.
