The Prince host British India ... and other things to do this week

Australian four-piece indie band British India continue their WA tour with ashowat the Prince of Wales Hotel in Bunbury this week. The band’s second album Thieves was released in 2008 and debuted at No. 5 on the ARIA charts, with follow-up Avalanche being released in 2010 and reaching No. 10. Come and see one of the country’s most talented bands this Thursday night from 8pm.

2 Twilight races

Bunbury Turf Club is proud to present its first twilight race meet of the season this Friday. Kickstart your weekend with the POAGS Port Logistics twilight race day with some great live music and racing. Gates open at 1pm for a 2.30pm start. Tickets are available at the gate for $5 for adults and $4 for concession.

3 Toy Run

The annual Indian Harley Club of Bunbury Toy Run is a fundraiser with all motorbike riders invited to take part while donating non-perishable food items or toys. Bikes of all sizes are welcome, with entrants meeting at Earl Scott Reserve in Capel at 9am for an estimated 10am departure. The bikes will then travel to Dalyellup by 10.30am before picking up the older and smaller bikes for a ride along Ocean Drive for a 11am finish across from the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre car park.

4 Printmakers

The South West Printmakers are holding their sixth exhibition, The Edge of Darkness, at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries. The group is made up of a diverse range of individual artists who have been brought together by a passion for printmaking. It was formed in late 2005 and began exhibiting together a year later. The exhibition is running until January.

5 Poker

Come and test your poker skills in a fun and friendly atmosphere this Sunday at the Burlington Hotel. The Australian Poker League tournament is completely free with registration from 1pm for a 2pm start.

6 Speedway

The Coates Hire Bunbury Speedway is the place to be this Saturday night, with all star juniors, top star juniors, production sedans, street sedans, limited sprintcars, wingless sprintcars and speedcars all in action. Gates open at 4pm,with tickets at the gate for $20 for adults, $10 for concessions, children 6-17 years $5 and family tickets available (two adults and up to three children) for $45.

7 Carols

Central Lake Park in Dalyellup Estate will be transformed tomorrow evening as the annual Dalyellup Carols by Candlelight kicks off the festive season. Local performances will begin 6pm and will include choirs and bands from Dalyellup College and Ocean Forest Lutheran College, as well as Louise Pierre’s School of Music.

8 Puss in Boots

Way before he ever met Shrek, the legendary Puss in Boots goes on a heroic journey, teaming up with mastermind Humpty Dumpty and the street savvy Kitty Softpaws to steal the famed Goose that lays the Golden Eggs. It is the adventure of nine lifetimes. Puss in Boots is screening now at Bunbury Grand Cinemas.

9 Celebrate

Get ready for one of the biggest celebrations of the year when New Year’s Eve hits cinemas on Thursday. Starring just about every celebrity in Hollywood, the film celebrates love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and fresh starts, in intertwining stories told amidst the pulse and promise of New York City on the most dazzling night of the year.

10 Andre Rieu

Come and see Andre Rieu Live at Amsterdam Arena direct via satellite. This two-hour spectacle features Mirusia Louwerse, The Platin Tenors and Holiday on Ice with all of the grandeur his fans will love. Songs include Strauss magic, Scotland The Brave, When I’m Sixty Four, Amazing Grace and much more. It will show at Grand Cinemas Bunbury on Sunday at 11am.
