Theatre seats a lasting legacy

Bunbury Herald

Residents now have the opportunity to immortalise themselves at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre by buying a plaque to go on the back of a seat in one of its theatres.

BREC is asking for donations to help buy necessary equipment for the theatres and are offering the naming rights to the seats in return.

Centre general manager Joel McGuinness said all the donations were tax deductable and there was plenty of space.

“We have 810 seats in the existing theatre and 240 seats in the new theatre. All of those seats are available,” he said.

“It costs $500 to name a seat in the stage one theatre and $250 to name a seat in the cube theatre.

“All donors will be invited to an exclusive function which will be one of the first functions we have in the new spaces.”

BREC board member Michel Greenhalgh, who has brought four naming rights for seats for his family in theatre one, said he was happy to come on board and help with the project.

“As a board member I felt a responsibility to contribute to the program. Also, because I have been a resident of Bunbury for more than 17 years and as a family we feel the Entertainment Centre contributes to the broader spectrum of the community,” he said.

“I encourage others to buy naming rights as it is a really special facility and in the future the new theatre is going to bring a more broad entertainment spectrum.”

The opportunity to name a seat runs out on December 13 and everyone who does so will be invited to the special launch event.
