Mark Bairstow’s $31 outsider Amarna looked poised to pull off a form-defying victory when turning first but apprentice jockey Natasha Faithfull could do nothing to halt the furious late charge of This Cat Rocks and was forced to settle for second.

Graham Yuill five-year-old Moet Dancer ($9) completed a South West trifecta, running on strong to finish third after settling at the back of the field and turning seventh.

Simon Foster-trained favourite Reset’s Mate ($3.70) could not capitalise on the number one barrier, failing to overcome top weight at 59.5kg and was never in the placings before finishing fifth.
