Tigers down AMR by massive margin

South Bunbury wrapped up their home and away South West Football League season and the minor premiership by beating the lowly Augusta-Margaret River by 125-points at Hands Oval on Saturday night.

The Hawks travelled north to take on the Tigers on a brisk evening with nothing to play for but pride and endured a 24.16 (160) to 5.5 (35) walloping.

But the once proud premiers never waved the white flag, fighting the Tigers to the end.

Conversely the Tigers had much to go for with Bunbury breathing down their necks just two points adrift for this last round of fixtures with a loss possibly handing the minor premiership to Bunbury.

“Go to” man Brynn Francis was also on a mission.

Second to Bulldog Marc Re on the goal kicking list, a few weeks back, Francis was swell served by his midfielders for a personal eight goals followed by Brett Robinson with six and Adam Hunter four.

There was no charity from the Hawks, however, with ruckman Hamish Shepherd together with captain Ben Gerrans, Beau Morgan, Kurt Kevill and company keeping up a valiant effort.

Two unlikely goal sneaks started the match off with a surprise, Mitch Gerrans finding himself with an angled 25m set shot within a minute of bounce down to give the Hawks the first points, followed by Tiger Kale Francis tying it up.

But by quarter time Brynn Francis had posted three majors, brother Kale and the first two of Robinson’s six together with a Fraser Miller goal to set the scene for the slaughter.

A steady stream of goals flowed throughout with Souths slotting seven first-quarter majors, six in the second, five in the third term and six in the last.

While forwards Robinson and Francis were the scoreboard heroes it was a powerful engine room that drove the Tigers.
